Thomas Mullett, London, (with an accompanying note by J. J. Evans), to Henry Wheaton, care of Robert Murray Esqr, New York, 28 July 1806.
London. 28 July. 1806.
Dear Sir,
We hope this will find you safely landed in New York, after a short & pleasant passage.
Enclosed is a Letter sent us by Messrs Pelletreau, Bellamy & Co who have remitted us on your a/c, £21.16.3, to your Credit, from which we perceive there will be a deduction of £0.14.3 for Postages: your d[ra]ft on us will be honored or the Balance.—
It will be fortunate for our mutual Interests, as nations, when the differences that have unhappily too long existed in our Commercial relations, shall have been arranged. Mr Pinckney’s arrival may accelerate this desirable result.
Your recent residence here enables you to form some Estimate of the State of Politics. Peace is much talked of between France & England, & discussions have taken place. A negociation also is in train between Russia & France, & according to report is actually concluded.
We are
respectfully
Dear Sir,
Your Obedt & hble Servt,
Tho. Mullett & Co
P.S. I was sorry not to see you again after the day you called at our Counting house; that I might have had an oppy to assure you of the regret I felt at parting with you, & of our sincere wishes for your future welfare. We shall hope to hear thro’ our mutual friend Mr C. Murray, of your safe arrival ’ere long in the Circle of your family & friends.
J. J Evans
