Richard Pengilly, Newcastle-on-Tyne, to Joseph Angus, Secretary, 6 Fen Court, Fenchurch Street, London, 11 January 1843.
My dear Bror
My young friend Thos Thompson (a very worthy & pious young man, son of Henry Thompson of Paradise) who some time ago offered himself for the African Mission in the Capacity of a Engineer, or manager of the Engine of the Contemplated Steamer, is very desirous of knowing from you whether his services are likely to be required. If you would be so kind as just state what you think of it it would be very interesting to him and his friends.
We shd also be glad if you would inform us whether Dr Prince is likely to be passing this way and when. It would be very desirable for him to spend an Evening here and another at Durham, if possible: one at least.
I would also thank you to give me the address of my old friend Mr Phillippo. United by my diminished family circle in love to you and yours I am yrs truly
Richd Pengilly
