Samuel G. Green of Rawdon College to the Rev. R. Littlehales, 2 April 1875.
My dear friend,
I return the Sermons & hope you wil not think I have kept them too long. They have much gratified me by their freshness & fervour: and are in my view essentially “sound”—It is true that you appear to be rather fond of dwelling on Secondary views of great truths—but you do not omit those which are primary & fundamental—I especially like the sermon on Soul prosperity. That on the death of Christ is also good although the nature of your argument leads you to dwell chiefly on the ethical side of the topic. Still the doctrine of substitution is plainly there.
I think you are right in deciding for Burnley, & trust that all success will there attend & crown your ministry.—It is I believe arranged for me to visit Burnley & collect for the College May 30. The friends I hope will be able & disposed to give us a good collection—for we need it.
With very good wish,
I am, my dear friend,
Most truly yours
Sam G. Green
