Madam
The writer of this letter is an old & highly esteemed friend, a Cornish Gentleman of ancient family – a barrister And a police magistrate acting in the Kensington &c Court he is an Invalide – And every now and then at Brighton for his health. He may be there soon – And were you desirous of seeing him when there, he would have pleasure in calling on you. He knows for whom the application was made –
The letter therefore speaks for itself And I know not that it admits of any explanatory remark; At least, none occurs to me –
I have the honour to be
faithfully your’s
&c &c &c
