George Dyer, Cambridge, to Benjamin Edwards, Independent Minister, Northampton, 22 August 1788.
Dear Sir,
I here send you my paper---You was able enough to assure me of y.r friendship---I therefore say nothing on that subject, only thanking you for y.r great civility. The work is much encouraged in the University. The work will be published by private Subs.n--so names will therefore be printed. It will not be out till towards March---If therefore Sir, you w.d procure me a few Subscriptions among y.r friends & keep the money for three or 4 months--(you may perhaps have a greater probability of increasing subscriptions) you’ll do me a favour---Perhaps you’ll deliver one to M.r Horsey & M.r Ryland (with my Respectful Compl:ts) & perhaps at Daventry Academy---If they can do me any service I am persuaded they will.---I have drop’d my School at present, & devote myself entirely to this business---having free access to one or two of the College Libraries---I shall continue at Cambridge at least till my work is finished. When you have got the Subscriptions together---you’ll be so obli[ging?] as to convey them to me---Perhaps M.r Horsey w.d convey one to M.r Toller of Kettering. If any of those Gentlemen w.d procure me any Subscriptions they will be so oblig: as to convey them to you, who at proper opportunity will convey it to me with the names: In the mean time, Sir, I flatter myself you will do me the favour to send me a line. Perhaps M.r Hague will be able to serve me, as his connections are extensive. If he can I am persuaded he will---I only write on this subject to a few friends, who have either offered to serve me, or of whose friendship in time past I have had proof---Farewell, my dear Sir may God bless you in every attempt to promote Truth & Benevolence---I remain,
Sir,
Y.r obliged humble Ser.t
& Friend
G Dyer.
