Henry Crabb Robinson, [30 Russell Square], to Angela Georgina Burdett-Cootts, Holly-Lodge, Highgate, Saturday 16 July [1859].
Dear Miss Cootts,
Certainly the indiscribale [sic] old card case with its queer collection of slips of Cardpaper is not mine – I presume that it was found in Stratton Street after my call – And that extreme delicacy caused the enquiry to be made the contents being unknown – otherwise the more reasonable question arises whence the suspicion
I am no solver of riddles? What these slips are is as unguessable as the import of your Louis Napoels treaties and promises – I hope more harmless at all events –
What a masterly leader is that of today’s Times on the anticipated union of the two Emperors!
