About the Editor,

I completed a Ph.D. in English, with an emphasis in American Studies, in 1989, and taught American and World Literature at a university in Georgia until December 2023, when I retired from full-time teaching. My dissertation was on the early American poet, Anne Bradstreet (1612-72), and for the past two decades and more have returned to my work in Women’s Studies and the intersection of Religion and Literature in the lives of British and American Nonconformist women writers between 1650 and 1850. I first presented a paper in England in the summer of 1997 and since then have made more than 50 research trips to the UK, focusing my research primarily on various Romantic writers, both men and women, and their interaction with religious Dissent, exploring writers as far back as 1720 and forward to about 1860. All my work since 1997 has dealt exclusively with manuscript sources and rare printed sources either unknown or misidentified. Thus, my work is a blend of literary criticism and history set within the context of British nonconformity, emphasizing the uncovering of previously unknown women writers from within that milieu, but never losing sight of such major figures as William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Henry Crabb Robinson, or Mary Hays. My work has also been greatly enhanced by my affiliations with the Centre for Baptist History and Heritage, Regent’s Park College, Oxford University; the School of English and Drama, Queen Mary University of London; and Dr. Williams’s Library, London.
