Sir Enclosed we hand you Bank of Commerce Bill on Mess. Baring Bros. & Co. for Our Hundred & ninety eight pounds twelve shillings Sterling (£198.12.0) which at 8 1/4% Exchange you will find closes Ward’s church account, after anticipating the November Quarter’s dividend which we believe it is proper to remit Mr. J. C. Marshman for the Serampore College through you, if we understand the arrangement between the College and your Missionary Society. We have sent duplicate of the a/c to Wm. Thacker Esqr. to forward to J. C. Marshman.
We thank you Sir for the attention shewn the sons of our Wm. Colgate in England, and who we expect about this time embarking for home with improved health.

At the time of the above letter, he was in charge of collecting subscriptions in America to the BMS. See Missionary Herald (January 1843), 68. His two sons were James (1818-1904) and Samuel (1822-97) Colgate.
