John Sandys, Northampton, to the Managers of the Particular Baptist Fund, London, c. autumn 1769.
Northampton 1769
Gentlemen I was not without Gratitude to God that I receiv’d some Intimations of your benign Proposals relative to the Education of such who have a Desire to serve in the Work of the Sanctuary but are by no means capable of furnishing themselves with a Competence of Academical Learning as a pre-requisite to that Function.
In such a Circumstance I profess my self to be. I’d hope upon Gospel Principles my God beareth me Witness it is my dayly Prayer that if it should not be for his Glory that he would frustrate my Hopes and disconcert the Scheme
I’m conscious that my Heart is deceitfull above all thing [sic] but if I know any thing of the matter tis my Desire to Glorify Christ whether by Life or Death whether by this calling or another. and if the disposer of all Events see that it will subserve the ends of his Glory and the good of his Church will I doubt not encline you to assist me If not I trust with a perfect Acquiescence I shall be enabled to say thy Will be done.
Gentlemen I remain with my Prayers for your Temporal and Spiritual wellfair your unworthy
servant
John Sandys
