John Clarke (1802-1879), BMS missionary to Jamaica (1829-1839), West Africa (1843-1847), and Jamaica once again (1852-1879). At that time, Clarence was the primary settlement on the island of Fernando Po, with a population of about 700. Nearby was the village of Krou Town. Thomas Sturgeon (d. 1846) was a BMS missionary to Fernando Po, 1842-1846.
