John Ryland, Jr., Bristol, to John Rippon, Grange Road, Southwark, c. 1802 [no postmark].
Dear Bror
I am overwhelmed wth Letters which I cannot ans.r – I noticed a few places w.ch sh.d be corrected in the Serm.n
[here follow several corrections suggested by Ryland, most of which have been marked through, probably by Rippon, suggesting that they were incorporated into the printed version of the sermon]
I have been uncommonly hurried of late w.th a great deal of Extra Business. Have just heard of an opportunity of sendg free to London –
I find the Sermon you urged me to print has exposed me to another attack, but I believe I must leave it to defend itself – I lost too much by the form.r in reply to Mr Rowe to venture on printing again – It sold very well at Bristol, and a few in Lond.n but people else where cared litle about it – Not one was sold at Northampton to my knowledge – I have seen nothing of this publicat.n but it is announced in the Monthly Magazine – I think it is by one Wright – I suppose a Universalist –
John is bound Apprentice to Mr Joseph Hall of Maryport Street who married Miss Mayes of Moorfields – I can add no more but cordial Love to all your house
Y.rs Cordially
J R.
