A brief MS. in an unknown hand about the Serampore Trio (Carey, Marshman, and Ward), c. 1810.
“The Mission at Serampore is almost a new thing in the earth for purity of Doctrine, Zeal, good order, and wise management. Three such men as Carey, Marshman, and Ward, are seldom to be found united together. They compose a threefold cable not to the broken. Their Qualities unite well. Mr Carey is firm, prudent, and persevering. Mr Marshman abounds in the rare grace of Zeal, which surmounts all obstacles, and keeps all alive, and in motion. Mr Ward’s solid judgment and personal Religion give stability and beauty to the Union. They are as devoted, and active as men can be. The other Brethren of the Mission are worthy to be followers of these three first, though they may not attain unto the first three.”
