Caleb Evans, Cheltenham, to John Rippon, London, 30 July 1783.
Cheltenham July 30. 1783
My Dr Fnd,
If the enclos’d letter saying they have recd no fund money ye last yr be improper, send me word, or Mr Eastland, & you shall have ansr. I think there was an exhibition granted to Bridgewtr last yr, but ye questn is to whom was it paid?
I hope this will find you & Mrs R. & all yr family & friends in ye possessn of health & happiness: & you may be always assur’d of my most earnest prayers that you may long continue in ye enjoymt of these invaluable blessings. Yr next visit to Brisl will I hope be longer than the last which was indeed rather a vision than a visit. I have had a most abuse letter indeed from Mr H abt ye R. D. [Regium Donum], to which I have return’d a soft answer. I have not yet heard from Mr Smith whether he is likely to settle at Wantage or not – if he does, I shall trouble you with an application to ye fund on his behalf. Dr St has granted me 5£ for him. Mrs Evs has been with me here a week – ye town full – ye walks pleast – but my spirs low – we shall stay a week or two longer – pray for me -- & be assur’d yt with ye sincerst regard I remain
Yrs affecy
C Evans
