Samuel Palmer, Sr., 2 Branch Place, Hoxton, to Samuel Palmer, Jr., 4 Grove Street, Lisson Grove North, Marylebone, 16 March 1840.
Dear Samuel,
My brother left Aldermanbury last Friday between 4 & 5 – A. G. went with him in a Cab to Cox’s Hotel Jermyn St, St James’s; he fell on the stairs, was put to bed & died in less than two hours. I went to Cox’s about one, Saturday, saw him, but so altered that I could not trace any resemblance to his former self. Messrs Francis & Hills are Exors. Nothing has yet come to my knowledge. There is a notion that he will be buried at Mongewell House neighbourhood near Wallingford 40 miles off – Mr Bennett’s Estates are there. Your uncle had taken Mongewell House. Love to your wife.
Yr af. Father
