John Ryland, Bristol, to the Revd John Williams, New York, 22 February 1805.
My dear Bror
Samuel Miles the Bearer is a Member of the Church meeting in Broadmead, whom I baptized in the year 1802. His Conduct has to the best of my knowledge been becoming his Professon, and I trust he will be found a sincere disciple of Christ. As such I would recommend ^him^ to you, and to the Church and your Care. As he is at present undetermined whether he shall stay in your Country or return to this, or if he shd stay in America, is not sure in what part he may settle, we do not send a Dismission with him, but if he shd remove from New York to Philadephia you can testify to our Brethren there, that I recommended him to you –
I am at this time much hurried, but will if possible write more before he sails –
I was much obliged to you for your last packet, tho the Capn by putting it into the post, occasioned an Enormous Charge of 4 or 5 and twenty Shillings – If he cd not convey it without sending it to the Custom house of or the Post, the former wd have been far preferable to the latter
Grace be wth you I am
Your’s cordially
John Ryland

If you can lend him any Assistce by your Advice in getting some property left to his wife by an Uncle who died in Barbadoes and whose widow lives near New York I dare say you will readily do it –
