Mar. 17. 1887.
Dear Sirs,
Mr Wicks has sent me on your generous offer to give a clock to the new School-chapel in Thornton Heath. I am specially obliged to you as I am making a strong effort to give ground & building to the neighbourhood witht a penny of debt upon it. The people themselves are poor, & cannot help me to any extent worth mentioning. Mr Wicks has made bold to do what I shd not have ventured upon, but I am very grateful to you.
The place will not be ready till May, & I will write you. I wd not have you spend much money on it, for it is a small building though handsome. It will be damp at first, & I wd have you keep back the clock, only it wd be pleasant to have it up at the opening, & then to thank you for it.
Yours very truly
C. H. Spurgeon
