Richard Furman, Charleston, to John Rippon, London, 3 April 1803.
Charleston 3 of April 1803.
Revd & Sir,
In the utmost haste I set down to write you a few Lines by Mr John Monk, principally for the Purpose of introducing him to your Acquaintance. He is a Man of Character, one of my Congregation, and I hope a Friend to Religion. He has been married to a Daughter of Mr Inglesby, whom you have seen; but having lost her by Death, he was a few Months ago married to a Niece of mine. He goes to London on Business as a Merchant. While he is there I expect to get him to furnish you ^with^ some Money on my Account. But having some other Business of importance to intrust to him ^while^ there which ^is^ not yet in readiness, I must defer sending for the Present, and till I write to him; at which Time I hope to write to you also, more fully than I can at present. I have received no Registers from you since the 24th No nor anthing else. Last year I ventured to trouble you with a Request to purchase some Religious Tracts, for Distribution; but not hearing from you, myself and Friends remain ^at^ a Loss respecting the Success of the Measure.
It has pleased God to visit many Churches in this State, within a Twelvemonth, with a Refreshing from his Presence; and a considerable Number of Converts have been brought in.
I inclose the Minutes of our last associational Meeting; by which you will have a general view of what has ^been^ stated above.
Wishing you the best of Blessings, I remain,
Revd & dear Sir,
Affectionately yours, in the Gospel,
Richard Furman.
