Text: MS 133-2000, Linnell Archive, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; see also Raymond Lister, Letters , vol. 1, p. 427, in a footnote. Samuel Palmer the artist wrote a note about this on a letter to Lady Delawarr on 21 and 23 October 1843 (he had just returned from Wales):
[Father]’s second Wife to whom he was married on the 12th October 1843 was (a widow) Mrs. Mary Cutter. aged 48 – A warper – superior branch of weaving ‘supports herself, is good looking, refined, intelligent in Scripture knowledge etc. descended from the French Refugees. Her Brother Mr. Peel [Joseph Peet] is a clergyman at Travancore, a considerable author. She occupies a large top floor; The Jacks and Mills take up much room. The access to it is uninviting and the whole is mean, but she is a prize.’ (Lister, Letters 1.427).
