John Sutcliff, Olney, to the Revd John Williams, New York, 29 August 1804.
Very dear Sir
Seize an opportunity of sending by Mr Harding, a line to express my Gratitude, & that of many here, for your kindness to our young friends at New York. Owing to a weakness in my right hand, I can write but little; but, perhaps, we could now & then exchange a Line, an association Letter, &c. It would afford me pleasure to receive any thing of this kind. Perhaps you may sometime have a friend coming to London, who would leave a small packet for me at the Rev. Mr Button’s, 24 Paternoster Row. Has any person defended the work in Kentucky, against Rankin’s Review? Have seen Rankin, & should rejoyce to see any insidious piece in defence of it the work.
One of our friends mentions the kindness of a Mr Withington. If he once lived in Manchester, I knew him, & Mrs W.
With best wishes for your usefulness & comfort, I rest,
Yrs most cordially,
John Sutcliff
